Song Lyric Sunday – Billy Fury, Elvis, Queen & My Dad!

Wednesday is my Dad’s birthday.  Dad likes music almost as much as mum and I but the only gigs he goes to is Jack Jones. When I was younger though Sunday’s were mostly based around the CD player.  There was no Itunes or Ipods, and there were only 4 TV channels and not much football on.

Sunday’s started with cooking the dinner and Billy Fury would always be played! So much so, that our neighbours thought my Dad’s name was Bill and I could sing the start of the next song on the CD before it even started playing.

Then after dinner Dad would normally put music on and listen through headphones, but it would be SO loud that we could all hear it too! Elvis and Queen would always be played and its thanks to Dad that I have a love for all these singers today.

Today’s post didn’t have a specific lyric to it, just a thank to my Dad for all he’s done and continues to do for me and the good music he’s taught me about, then I realised that these lyrics sums up me and my Dad perfectly…

When no-one else can understand me
When everything I do is wrong
You give me hope and consolation
You give me strength to carry on
And you’re always there to lend a hand
In everything I do
That’s the wonder of you

Happy Birthday Dad – I Love You x

Keep Ya Head Up – Tupac

So most of my song lyrics posted have been Country songs.  However I do love most types of music.  I was talking to a friend at work about songs and Tupac came up and it just reminded me how much I loved him.  So for my 18 year old self, today’s Song Lyric Sunday is dedicated to Tupac.

But please don’t cry, dry your eyes, never let up
Forgive but don’t forget, girl keep your head up

2Pac - Keep Ya Head Up
2Pac – Keep Ya Head Up

It seems tha rain’ll never let up
I try to keep my head up, and still keep from gettin wet up
You know it’s funny when it rains it pours
They got money for wars, but can’t feed the poor

Because there’s too many things for you to deal with
Dying inside, but outside you’re looking fearless
While tears, is rollin down your cheeks
Ya steady hopin things don’t all down this week
Cause if it did, you couldn’t take it, and don’t blame me
I was given this world I didn’t make it

Let It Go – Song Lyric Sunday

I’ve been listening to Zac Brown Band all week, so this weeks Song Lyric Sunday is one of their songs, much like Trying To Drive, I heard one day and thought WOW what an amazing song.

Let It Go – Zac Brown Band

Keep your heart above your head and your eyes wide open
So this world can’t find a way to leave you cold
And know you’re not the only ship out on the ocean
Save your strength for things that you can change
Forgive the ones you can’t
You gotta let ’em go

Song Lyric Sunday – A Mother Like Mine

As it’s my mums birthday tomorrow, today’s Song Lyric Sunday is dedicated to her.  There are many songs that remind me of my mum and songs that we share as our favourite, but this song I discovered around the same time my mum was diagnosed with cancer. We were very lucky and my mum is now back in good health.

A Mother Like Mine, The Band Perry

My Mum is the loveliest, strongest, bravest person I know and this song just makes me think of her.  There is a lyric later on in the song that says ‘We all need her, but no one more than me’  and it couldn’t be more true.

Happy Birthday Mum!

Song Lyric Sunday – You’ll Never Walk Alone

The final Song Lyric Sunday of 2014 goes to a song that has always stirred emotions in me. The scenes that poured out of Liverpool after the Hillsborough disaster stay with me and I am always moved to tears by this song and what it means to Liverpool fans. More recently its become more important me as it’s a special song for my fiances family and we remember those we’ve lost in it’s lyrics.

Also personally having lost loved ones and struggled this year, this song is a reminder that you are never alone…

“When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
There’s a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone”

Just reading the lyrics to this song so I can write this blog has me in tears.  And when I visited Liverpool Stadium this year it was a true goosebump moment to hear this song sung from The Kop. Football fan or not, this is a song that is in their blood, that is part of their history. They feel the lyrics as they sing along and they mean every single word!
